Supply chain services for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health

Advancing access to care for women and children

Around the world, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) outcomes remain an urgent priority. Despite global progress, challenges such as inconsistent access to essential health products, stockouts, poor infrastructure, and quality assurance gaps continue to limit women and children’s access to lifesaving interventions.

Reliable and efficient supply chain systems are critical to ensuring that MNCH products reach those who need them most. At PFSCM we specialize in strengthening supply chains to bridge these gaps and support affordable access to health products that protect women, newborns, and children.

PFSCM’s experience

PFSCM has extensive experience in serving diverse clients in the MNCH space. We have supported clients with feasibility studies for a prime vendor model aimed at enhancing access to MNCH devices across several African countries, we supported a client with a market access strategy for contracpetive devices, we have for many years been overseeing the supply chain activities of a program that donates antiretrovirals for infants and adolescents to several African countries, and we manage the supply of antibiotics and supplements aimed at enhancing the well-being of children in two African countries.

PFSCM conducted a feasibility study in two sub-Saharan African countries for a prime vendor system to improve the procurement and distribution of MNCH products, including neonatal resuscitation devices and accessories, portable ultrasound devices, and blood glucometers and test strips. This project demonstrated PFSCM’s ability to assess global and local markets and evaluate the establishment of a prime vendor system. Through rigorous market assessments with local distributors in Uganda and Zambia, PFSCM determined this system is a feasible solution to enhance product availability.

PFSCM developed a market access strategy for a client’s hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) targeting low- and middle-income markets. Our expertise ensured compliance with European export requirements and local importation and marketing regulations. We also optimized the client’s global supply chain for this new product category. This project highlights PFSCM’s proven ability to assess existing supply chains, identify risks, and implement robust, efficient, and responsive structures to support strategic objectives for medical devices.

PFSCM ensures donated pediatric HIV medicines reach recipients in ten Sub-Saharan countries on time and in full with their integrity intact. PFSCM has been supporting this donation program since 2014 and is responsible for forecasting, validation, coordination, order placement, and 4PL (upstream and downstream logistics).

PFSCM plays a vital role in ensuring the timely availability of pharmaceuticals for mass drug administration campaigns in LMICs. As a procurement agent, we coordinate with manufacturers and donors to source quality-assured medicines while managing complex supply chains, including upstream logistics, importation document processing, and warehousing. With partners, we mitigate logistical challenges, adapt to local infrastructure constraints, and ensure life-saving treatments reach target populations efficiently and reliably in time for activities like mass drug administration campaigns.

PFSCM has experience in arranging and overseeing pre-shipment inspections (PSI) for pharma products and medical devices. Currently, we help manage the PSI for Vitamin A capsules imported into Tanzania in response to the nutritional needs of children.
