Overseeing the end-to-end supply chain for ultra-portable X-ray systems across Kenya

The Partnership for Supply Chain Management (PFSCM), in partnership with 3PL partner Logenix International, has completed the nationwide rollout of 80 ultra-portable, AI-enabled digital X-ray systems to hospitals across Kenya, expanding access to tuberculosis (TB) diagnostics and strengthening respiratory disease detection.

Valued at nearly $4 million, the project represents a significant investment in digital health innovation to accelerate early TB detection and improve access to imaging services, particularly in remote and underserved regions.

PFSCM Logistics Specialist Victerva Araya-Hunt says the end-to-end supply chain project, initiated in 2024, included extensive sourcing, supplier contracting and management, procurement, transport planning, upstream and downstream oversight, regulatory and import supervision, and in-country client coordination.

“Working with Logenix International, we developed a detailed transport plan to move four ocean shipments from Chicago to Nairobi, with three of the four consignments containing regulated hazardous components that required specialized documentation, regulatory approvals, and compliance oversight.”

She notes that the shipments occurred amid ongoing disruptions in the Red Sea shipping corridor, which have added complexity to international routing and transit timelines.

Further, the consignments required intricate pre-clearance before arrival in Kenya, stresses Araya-Hunt.

“PFSCM and Logenix International worked closely with origin teams, in-country partners, and Kenyan authorities to secure the necessary exemptions and ensure full regulatory compliance before vessel arrival.”

She adds that following successful customs clearance and receipt at the consignee’s warehouse in Nairobi, the operation entered an equally demanding final phase.

“Nationwide distribution to 80 hospitals involved deliveries across varied terrain and infrastructure, including areas with poor road access further strained by seasonal rains, and required additional route planning and coordination due to heightened security considerations in regions near the Somalia border.”

Meanwhile, through tailored routing strategies, close engagement with local stakeholders, and continuous end-to-end oversight, PFSCM and Logenix International ensured that all 80 units were delivered safely and within the planned timeframe by November 2025.

“By ensuring the safe and timely transport of high-value, sensitive medical equipment, PFSCM and Logenix International helped accelerate access to advanced diagnostic technology and support Kenya’s efforts to strengthen TB detection and treatment nationwide.”
